Congrats to Phil on winning his third Masters in a great finish. It was a huge win and he played brilliantly, particularly his driving off the tee which had been suspect and off and on for awhile. I believe that was a huge factor in why he played s well. But this post isn't really about Phil's game, or golf in general for that matter, this post is about the appreciation of a beautiful moment.
After Phil sunk the tourney winning put he went over and embraced his wife in what is easily one of the best and most heartfelt moments in sports so far this year. If you aren't familiar with the story, his wife Amy has been battling cancer for awhile and has been very ill and on bed rest. For her to even travel to Augusta much less make it out on the course yesterday is a huge accomplishment. In Phil's words, "The long term prognosis is good but it has been a long tough road recently." So to see them able to share this moment together and share some joy in what has been a tough road was absolutely beautiful. For us as spectators, golf fans, or just human beings in general it was great to be able to witness such heartfelt and genuine emotion. All of this was made even more prominent by the shadow cast over the event of Tiger's return to the game after being busted for banging lots of sluts. There couldn't have been two more disparate portraits of a man and his wife than the two that happened this weekend. Hopefully for all of us, it will be the good one that will be remembered and not the bad one.
